BASEBALL’S EARLY LEGENDS: A PORTRAIT SERIES

As featured in BallNine — "Eyes on the Past"

Baseball's Early Legends is a series of original portraits celebrating the men who shaped the game in its earliest years — the heroes of the deadball era whose names deserve to be remembered. Each portrait is rendered in the tradition of 19th century engraving, capturing the character and grit of players who competed when the rules of the game were still being written. Created by Timothy J. Zarley, baseball historian and author of the Baseball War series, each print is available as an open edition or as a signed and numbered limited edition of 100.

WILLIE KEELER

One of baseball's greatest contact hitters, Willie Keeler batted over .300 for sixteen consecutive seasons and coined the timeless phrase "hit 'em where they ain't." He starred for the Brooklyn Superbas before joining the New York Highlanders in the early years of the American League.
